 More neat Japanese hardware hacks.

General News

Not content with Apple hardware how it is, the owners of this site have put together a page of some really neat hacks. Among them are this Happy Hacking keyboard clone, built from an Apple Keyboard II, a trayloading iMac motherboard into an LC case and an lc475 into an SE/30.

Now I'm looking at my iMac 400 and Quadra 605 case in an entirely new light...

General NewsThe wonderful Kodawarisan has done it again, with photos of the disassembly of an iMac G5. I've been waiting for images like these, curious about just where the cooling zones are. Nice to finally see a G5 cpu in the flesh, too!.

 Microsoft patents the tab key.

General News

Vnunet has this article regarding Microsoft being granted a patent for tabbing between hyperlinks in a browser.

The patent states in summary: "A user may discover and navigate among hyperlinks through the use of a keyboard. For example, a user may press a tab key to discover and navigate to a first hyperlink that is part of a hypertext document. The first hyperlink is, in response, given focus and a focus shape is drawn around the text or graphics for the hot region of the hyperlink. If the user again presses the tab key, the next hyperlink is given focus and a focus shape."

With such obvious patents being granted, I wouldn't be surprised to see the system fall apart eventually. Despite the article mentioning it would be a PR disaster if MS were ever to attempt enforcing the patent, surely other companies will try using the legal system to enforce the myriad of other nonsense patents - and make a mess of the courts as they do, prompting a mass cleanup. I can hope, anyway.

 The parts start to arrive...

General News

It's exciting. The pieces are starting to come in, and the case for the new machine has arrived. I decided this was going to be JUST a functional machine, and looks weren't going to come into the equation - I looked around a few online shops, weighed options, size, power, cooling... and bought a flash looking one anyway.

Now, a case that looks kinda neat is one thing, but one that lights up the room is a bit much - so much for subtlety. Thankfully those garish eyeburning strips can be turned off, leaving just a rather useful display. Four 5.25" drive bays and six 3.5" ones is pretty nifty too.

Next up, the motherboard. Should arrive Monday.

 Poll

Is it moral for Windows/Linux/Mac users to intermarry?

Of course it is - 100% OK.
It could work with effort.
I don't think society is ready for this.
That's sick and unnatural.
